The Society of Tanelorn - FAQ

HOME PETITION MEMBERS FAQ
AARDWOLF HOMEPAGE

1. Why do you have so few members?
That's really a combination of reasons. We have some requirements that many people would have trouble following, specifically those involving grouping with other clan members who are exposed to PK, and our inability to interfere in such matters. Additionally, the joining requirements are viewed by some as being rather strict, in the eyes and standards set by other clans. Be sure to read the clan rules found in the petition for a list of restrictions that potential applicants must be prepared to accept.

2. Are you an open clan?
Yes, all NOPK clans are open.

3. Are you accepting applications? What are the requirements?
In general are always accepting applications. The basic criteria is you must be level 150 or a remort/tier and have 600 hours online. The other requirements are detailed in the petition, but if you do not meet these two conditions then hold off on applying until later.

4. Why are your joining requirements so strict?
We, as a whole, don't think they are strict. If you have a good general knowledge of the MUD and can write a decent essay, you shouldn't really have much of problem getting in. Assuming every thing else is satisfactory, the main obstacle to joining Tanelorn is accepting the beliefs of our clan. It has been suggested that the description quest is one of the more difficult parts, but that's really a matter of opinion.

5. There are many clans out there that are currently NOPK, why should I join yours?
That's a fair question to ask, since our edge of being NOPK was taken away from us by the continuous growth of the entire MUD. There are many clans out there that will provide you with everything you will need to be in a clan, including being NOPK. Most of them will give you their fellowship, but usually their restrictions are silent, almost invisible ones that you can not see until you have joined.

We have a unique way of handling things in our clan. We all have a vote, from the leaders to the Brother/Sisters, the only rank not qualifying for a vote are the Wanderers, and only because they are still adjusting to their new way of life. Clan rank in Tanelorn is merely a reflection of one's accomplishments and activity within the clan. The task of the clan leaders is to ensure the petition is followed and that proposed changes do not negatively impact the nature of the clan or it's petition.

If you want a fellowship and you want to be part of a community who will listen to your ideas, granted they may all not be accepted but we are willing to listen, then this is the clan for you. All decisions are based on our majority, it promotes happiness for everyone in the clan.

Life within Tanelorn runs at a slow and relaxed pace. If you feel this would frustrate you, then we are not the clan for you.

6. What's the description quest like? (Plus various other description quest related questions)
Vanguard has been kind enough to prepare a short guide which should answer any questions you might have.

7. Why is the website so simple and non-graphic in nature?!
The website is intended as a source of content and a simple page is easy to fix if things go wrong. Additionally less is likely going to go wrong on this type of website and it is likely to be equally compatible with all browsers. It has nothing to do with Vanguard's weak grasp on html and website design. Nothing at all. That being said, we have the Deluxe version of the site that should include all the information found here as well as much more!

8. Are members allowed to have Alts in the clan?
Allowing alts in the clan can be a bit of a sensitive point, and can draw some less than desirable attention from other clans. On the other hand some players do have multiple characters and would like to benefit and work for the clan even when not on their primary character. While it should be obvious, an Alt is only allowed in the clan if the player's primary character is already in the clan.

Alt Rules
1. Maximum of 1 alt per actual player.
2. The Alt must meet the minimum entrance requirements for the clan. (lv150)
3. Player must remain active on both characters.
4. Alts must be declared to the entire clan. If you don't want your Alt to be known by others that it's you, don't ask to bring them in the clan.
5. Alts may not vote on clan affairs. (Having an alt in the clan is not intended to double your say in clan affairs!)
